Strzelecki Track re-sheeting Project

EBS Heritage was engaged in 2017 by DPTI in to undertake a desktop heritage and risk assessment for an area along the Strzelecki Track in north east South Australia. A high risk of damaging heritage was identified during this desktop assessment and EBS subsequently undertook an archaeological field survey of the proposed upgrade footprint. After the field component EBS Heritage made a series of recommendations to the client in regard to further mitigating their risk, including archaeological monitoring.

One heritage site recorded of interest was an area along the banks of the Strzelecki Creek that contained both European objects (such as clay pipes) and indigenous stone artefacts in the same area.

A total of 16 Aboriginal sites were identified and EBS Heritage worked with the client to avoid impacting these locations in accordance with the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1988.
